I guess I'll start it off right with a back to back post "On Record Store Day, Phish will release TWO SOUNDCHECKS, a Limited Edition 7-inch vinyl record that will be available exclusively at participating independently owned record stores across the country. TWO SOUNDCHECKS marks the band's first ever live vinyl release and their first release in conjunction with Record Store Day. This 7-inch is limited to 2,000 hand-numbered copies, and once they are gone they are gone. The A-Side is an instrumental jam culled from the soundcheck of Phish's third show of a sold out three-night stand at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA. The B-Side is an especially exotic soundcheck from Hartford, CT in 2009, featuring just Trey on Bass, and Fish on drums. This Limited Edition 7-inch was created exclusively for Record Store Day." phish.com/#/news/2011/16/two-soundchecks-limited-edition-7-inch-available-for-record-store-day

This really does need to be a national holiday.

I'm just happy I'm off that day. Thought I was going to be working in Vegas, but they moved the show up a week this year. Now I just need to find a special release that I want to buy.

We are already getting the Dex Romweber Duo to play here at Schoolkids on RSD and we may be getting The dB's as well (in addition to others, hopefully). Anyone who likes 80s jangle-pop and hasn't heard The dB's, check out Stands for Decibels immediately!

If The db's are playing ... you name the time and the place.
Long live Holsapple & Stamey!

I'll keep you posted, dude. It sounds like it's probably going to happen. We're pretty ecstatic about it as we're all big fans of The dB's here and they will definitely pack the store for RSD.

The original Newbury Comics in Boston has Dave Holland and Chris Potter playing. Sweet.

I need some help guys. Holly and I plan on staking out Grimey's on RSD. It will be a mad house. What do I need to try to get my hands on first in vinyl?
And here are the bands that will be playing. Anything look good?
Jason Isbell • Gabe Dixon Band • Hunx & His Punks The Mattoid • The Carnivores • Deadstring Brothers Ben Hall • April Smith & the Great Picture Show The Great Book of John
Jerry Lee Lewis is playing Third Man Records that day. I am sure Jack will be there.

Big Star Third. It's a test pressing of it. BTW anyone that snags an extra of that ... or one at all .... You should let me know. And if your store has it .... Evil Urges, Z, and It Stll Moves on vinyl. Otherwise I'd snag every 45 I came across. Jenny & Johnny/ Gram & Emmy Lou tops my list.

The members interchanged for a while, so I'm not entirely sure who the current consists of but we've seen them a few times and the performances were decent, at best. That was a few years ago though, so it might have improved.

Dammit! Here I thought Dave Holland and Chris Potter were playing at Newbury Comics downtown... turns out that was last year—I was looking at an old website. The schedule for this year doesn't have anything of note, IMO. TV on the Radio is doing a signing, but that's pretty much it.
Dammit.

So my boss came over 15 minutes before go time today and told me I was working an 11 hour shift tomorrow This is the second year I've missed RSD for some bullshit. In other news, has anyone else seen the FB posts about certain stores breaching contract and selling their allotments on eBay? Has that been a problem in the past?

Also, I've watched the Pitchfork 3D Deerhunter video with the 3d glasses. It's fucking awesome, you guys need to check that out at your local stores if it's there.

My favorite local record store included a "BS" indicator on their list of available releases. "Why BS? Because there's nothing special about them. They are things the labels would be releasing anyway. Some of them aren't limited, and some of them will eventually be available everywhere, not just Indie stores. They will most likely still be available after RSD."
Antony and the Johnsons--Swanlights EP 10" Architecture in Helsinki--Places Like This LP Deerhoof--Friend Opportunity LP Head and the Heart--Head and the Heart CD/LP James Blake--James Blake 2LP Mates of State--Team Boo LP Mighty Clouds--Mighty Clouds EP MMJ-picture discs Pearl Jam--Vs. LP and Vitalogy 2LP Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin--Broom LP
Any thoughts?
EDIT: or I guess you could just see the "Early Release" section of the RSD website. Same things

Has the punk never seen "Office Space" before? Here's what I picked up today... not an RSD exclusive, nor did I get it specially priced or anything for the occasion, but just because it's @*%& awesome... Yes, it's a five-movement composition for a 1-bit microchip, played through its own headphones jack. I'm listening to it now, and it's really quite remarkable.
