So I was digging around on my external hard drive and realized I had moved over some pretty interesting files. Since this project is scrapped I can unveil it. Basically when I got out of high school I started writing this "rock opera", a double album called Night & Day, respectively. It was meant to be sung by myself and my friends as if we were playing characters, and most of the lyrics are dialogue between them all, or letter correspondence. The plot was pretty murky with lots of holes, as any good rock opera should, but it was about this character who goes off to war in the first half, and is captured. The character tells the evil leader of the opposing side that he knew of un-tapped lands that could bring him many riches. They travel (just the two of them, on foot of course) to these "lands" and the main character ends up killing the evil guy in his sleep. The second half sees the main character reunited with his love, back at home and living his life out. Eventually, his mind begins to unravel, seemingly from post-traumatic stress issues, and he ends up in an institution by the last song. Here's where the big twist was supposed to be conveyed. In the last song he's going over everything that had happened to him up until that point, and slowly realizing it was all in his head. So the point was that the two halves were actually reversed. The whole story could be told in two perspectives: the first being Night > Day where the events really took place and he really lost it afterwards. The second, "true" interpretation was Day > Night, where the story is really mostly taking place inside the character's mind, save for the first couple of songs with being with his love and whatnot. It's all very confusing and obviously it didn't work out. Anyway, I stumbled upon some recorded material I put together of how I wanted the tracks to sound. They were recorded with a drummer I met through a musician's message board (James Broussard) and my great friend Brian on bass (epicurus on here, maybe seeing this will bring him out of the woodwork). The recordings are actually pretty cool, and I wanted to share this one in particular. It's the instrumental of the song to be titled "Nothing To Fear", which is actually the "capturing" scene of the Night portion. I was listening to a ton of The Wall at the time, so there was kind of this recurring motif throughout the story for the evil character, the distorted, kind of marching, guitar line. I'm actually pretty proud of this recording, despite its shakiness, and it captured a sweet drum solo from Broussard. Here's the mp3: www.lifessweetbreath.com/tracks/jeff-pearson-nothing-to-fear-instrumental.mp3/Rock opera confession

I guess it's a bad sign when the instructor asks "what happened to you today?" after you were finished.

Sorry Cheeky I hope the universe sends you something wonderful this weekend. I once spent 9 years of my life with a junkie. I never punched him, but I did slap him once. He retaliated by wrecking my first VW. I haven't slapped a person since. I'm pleased to report that, eventually, the junkie-punching urge fades away. Keep yo chin up girly!

Thanks you guys. I'm a pretty passive person, so other than the fact that if my laptop isn't found with everything in tact I may actually rip him apart with my bare hands, I'm pretty over the situation and just glad his smelly ass is out of my house. And yeah, NoD, I'm well aware of who did it. This guy I used to do drugs with (I would say "friend" but we never really had much in common other than poison, I realized later) moved into my house back in October, his family had kicked him out, no where to go, no job, no money, ect. Said he had been through detox but the actual rehab didn't have room for him and needed a good environment to crash in while he waited for an opening (I've housed quite a few people in the getting clean process so I guess that's why he came to me)... well that turned into 5 months of him fucking around my house and doing work for my parent's in the greenhouses when "he could". I decided around Christmas I had had my fill and that something was up but my parents were on Team Junkie and fooled by his bullshit at that point and told me they would be disappointed in me if I put him out on the street... Long story short he's "borrowed" over two grand for bullshit reasons from various people connected to me and my family and now that everyone finally realized what was up and he's used up all his resources he's stolen my check book, his sister's debit card, and now my laptop. But yeah, people suck, /rant. On a positive note, it's kind of nice to have to (hopefully temporarily) restart my digital collection. I have a bad habit getting stuck in musical loops, so I'm rediscovering old loves and looking for new ones (by the way, if you have older external harddrives, they more than likely won't be compatible with Window's 7 and if you call tech support they'll basically lecture you on how you should keep up with the times and upgrade all of your technological mediums constantly )
