I've noticed that not many people listen to classical anymore, but in the case someone is interested in it I am in love with this song 'Gnossienne No. 1'. There is a pretty good chance you've heard it if you like movies, as it's used very often in the background subtly. To me it evokes a melancholy-esque romance, it's just beautiful .Does anyone have any experience in this genre? A fan of this song, or would like to recommend something classical? Do you think classical is still considered relevant for music today?

That was a very beautiful piece, brooklynstars. I am in the boat of loving classical music but not really listening to it as much as I should, and most of the stuff I gravitate towards is orchestral in nature. There's just so much out there that I find it a very overwhelming process to pick out a piece to listen to. I definitely need to check out some more Satie piano works though.
I don't know if this is cliche but my favorite:

I love classical music. I listen to a lot of it. Not all the time mind you, but I have a good collection. I happen to be a Beethoven freak.
I was lucky enough to have access to someone in the know growing up. My closest friend, who I have known since the age of six, studied French Horn his whole life. While I was playing in metal and punk bands he was in the NY Youth Symphony performing at Carnegie Hall. He eventually gave it up as an adult, but not until after getting a BA and a Masters in performance. Anyway, he and I exposed each other to a lot of different music growing up. Classical has been part of my repertoire since I was quite young.
I tend to prefer the more energetic symphonies, although I do have a lot of chamber music in my library too.
Here's some nuggets for ya.
I totally love how creepy this one is.

I seriously love classical music. In particular, my passion, especially recently, is for opera. The vocal artistry is really unparalleled. I've got season tickets to the Houston Grand Opera, which puts on six productions per year. Last week, they did Donizetti's Lucia Di Lammermoor, which I wasn't familiar with but really blew me away. Here's a different performance of my favorite scene from it, and the camera angle sucks, but this soprano is truly fantastic:

Part of my love for classical music comes from all of the incredible cartoon adaptations of classical masterpieces. Most of these were made in the 40s and 50s, but they were still occasionally played on TV in the 80s (not sure if they still are).
One of my favorites is this great Walter Lantz adaption of the aria "Largo al Factotum" from Rossini's Barber of Seville. This one was also done twice by Looney Tunes and once by MGM, but I think Woody Woodpecker's is the best.
Skip to around 4:00 if you just want the music, but I recommend the whole thing.

Yeah, back when cartoons were good. I don't really dig on the opera thing too much. There is lots of classical music in classic cartoons.

I finally got the chance to lsiten to all of the recommendations, and I enjoyed them thoroughly, I'm glad to know that classical music is still popular.

For some great neoclassical, Stravinsky... I don't listen to too much classical, but I have great appreciation for it.

Yes, this is it.
Top 10 Composers: 1. J.S. Bach 2. Beethoven 3. Stravinsky 4. Mozart 5. Charles Ives 6. Bartók 7. Josquin des Prez 8. John Cage 9. Shostakovich 10. Debussy
That's a working list, but pretty close.
